Background
Hon. Karen Mitchell was appointed as a judge for the Missouri Court of Appeals-Western District in 2009. Mitchell’s judicial assignments included serving a two-year term as chief judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals-Western District from 2018-2020.
Mitchell was assistant attorney general and chief deputy attorney general for the Office of the Missouri Attorney General, as well as director of the Missouri Department of Revenue. Mitchell graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law and was admitted to The Missouri Bar in 1984.
Mitchell is a member of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, Trial Judge Education Committee, and Supreme Court of Missouri Civil Rules Committee. Mitchell previously served on The Missouri Bar Board of Governors, Supreme Court of Missouri Committee on Procedure in Criminal Cases, and Supreme Court of Missouri Appellate Practice Committee.
