The 16th Circuit Judicial Commission is accepting applications for the position of associate circuit judge, Division 34 of the 16th Judicial Circuit (Jackson County). The position was newly created by the Missouri General Assembly.

The Appellate Judicial Commission announced that it is accepting applications for an open seat on the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Clifford H. Ahrens after nearly 25 years on the bench.

Citizens are encouraged to nominate well-qualified candidates for the commission’s consideration. The Missouri Constitution requires that a judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals be at least 30 years old, licensed to practice law in Missouri, a United States citizen for at least 15 years and a qualified Missouri voter for at least nine years. Nominations should be submitted to the commission by e-mail at EDJudgeVacancy@courts.mo.gov or by postal mail to Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District Judge Vacancy, PO Box 150, Jefferson City, MO 65102.

The 22nd Circuit Judicial Commission (City of St. Louis) is accepting applications for a circuit judge vacancy created by the retirement of Judge John F. Garvey. The application deadline is September 16, 2015.

The commission encourages qualified individuals to apply. Qualifications for circuit judges may be found in Article V, Section 21 of the Missouri Constitution.

The 21st Circuit Judicial Commission announced that public interviews will be held for the current circuit judge vacancy in St. Louis County on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. The Commission will also hold deliberations to select the panel of three nominees for the governor’s consideration upon the conclusion of the interview process.

The 31st Judicial Circuit Commission (Greene County) is accepting applications for an associate circuit judge vacancy created by the appointment of Judge Jason R. Brown to the circuit bench. Applications must be received by 5 p.m., September 9, 2015.

Citizens are encouraged to nominate well-qualified candidates for the Commission’s consideration. The Missouri Constitution, Article V, Section 21, requires that an Associate Circuit Judge be at least twenty-five years old, licensed to practice law in Missouri, a citizen of the United States for at least ten years, a qualified voter of Missouri for the three years preceding selection, and a resident of the 31st Judicial Circuit for at least one year. Nominations should be submitted to the contact person listed below.

The commission will decide at a later date how many applicants will be interviewed. The commission will conduct public interviews on September 24 and 25, 2015, if necessary, beginning at 9:00 a.m. on each date. The commission will then select a panel of three nominees for the vacancy from the applicants who will be interviewed. Thereafter, Governor Nixon will have 60 days to appoint one of the three nominees as the associate circuit judge.

Members of the commission are Mary W. Sheffield, chief judge of the Missouri Court of Appeals, Southern District; attorneys Steven B. Garner and Andrew K. Bennett; and lay members Steven Stepp and Joann Hosmer.
